Initial Thoughts After the 2020 NFL Combine

Safety

Antoine Winfield Jr. is the answer and the only one. There are other players who are better prospects at other positions but Winfield is my personal favorite option for the Browns. Likely to be a second rounder but could end up being an NFL great.

He is the son of the great Antoine Winfield so the NFL history is in his blood. With also being an Ohio guy, it would be nice to have him in Cleveland. When watching film of Winfield Jr, all I see is a playmaker.

He is good in coverage and has made some really tough interceptions throughout his college career. He moves extremely well from sideline to sideline and is not afraid to put his body on the line in the box. I believe he is also the best blitzer from the safety position in this draft. Some of his film reminds me of Troy Polamalu and Cleveland fans know how much of a nuisance it was to play against him. Check out some of the comparison clips on my twitter: cdm_2910.

Here are his numbers from the combine:

  • 40-yard dash: 4.45 seconds
  • vertical jump: 36 inches
  • broad jump: 10-feet-3-inches

If the Browns do not get Winfield in the second round of this year’s draft, then hopefully he does not end up in the AFC North. Winfield Jr. could end up being an elite NFL talent.
