MEDINA, OH –
In a tightly contested regional semifinal matchup, the Hudson Explorers held off the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Bees in a game that was competitive from start to finish, eventually securing a 51–44 victory. Hudson controlled the pace for most of the night, building small leads throughout the first three quarters, but Brecksville refused to go away. The Bees consistently chipped away at the deficit with timely shooting and aggressive defense, keeping the Explorers within reach and setting up a dramatic fourth quarter with the score tied 42–42.
Both teams showed flashes of offensive firepower throughout the game, though the night was also defined by a high number of turnovers on both sides. Hudson’s Ashli Pearson proved to be a relentless presence, creating chaos with an aggressive style of play while helping spark an offense where seemingly anyone on the floor was willing to shoot. Brecksville countered with fearless scoring threats of their own, particularly Maya Woods who showed the confidence to launch from anywhere on the court and helped keep the Bees within striking distance as the game wore on.
The final minutes were tense. With 2:36 remaining, Hudson held a 45–42 lead, but Brecksville closed the gap to 45–44 with 45 seconds left, setting up a frantic finish. Hudson calmly navigated Brecksville’s intentional fouling strategy, converting just enough at the free-throw line to maintain control. With 20 seconds left, Hudson extended the lead to 46–44, and clutch free throws from #5—including a huge offensive rebound after a miss—helped push the margin to 49–44. Brecksville’s late turnovers on consecutive possessions sealed the outcome, allowing Hudson to escape with the 51–44 win. Abby Henderson led all scorers with 18 points, powering the Explorers into the Regional Final, where they will face the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs on Friday night.
