The Namers came out swinging with a goal in the first 11 seconds. The Bucks weren’t shaken however as they came right back, scoring 2 goals in the next 2 plus minutes to take their first lead of the game at 2-1 with 9:13 to play. That didn’t last long either as this time it was Holy Name battling right back to tie it at 2 with 8:24 to play in the first, and we were just getting started in this one.
Both teams stood tall defensively for a bit until Buckeye reclaimed the lead with an overhand goal at 5:32 remaining of the first quarter. It would take literally less then 30 seconds for the Namers to knot it up again, this time at 3 with 5:08 left in the first to play. This was all part of a crazy back and forth opening quarter that ended tied as both teams held firm defensively for the final 5 plus minutes.
The first six minutes of the second quarter remained close, as Holy Name was only able to score one goal but held Buckeye scoreless at the same time, gripping a 4-3 lead with 6:33 left in the second. It remained a 1 goal lead for the Namers until they broke through again to increase it to 5-3 with 3:44 to play in the opening half. Holy Name increased their lead to 6-3 at the break.
The Namers came out of the half like a team on fire, scoring three times in the first two plus minutes to lead Buckeye comfortable, 9-3 and show their dominance on every inch of the field. This Holy Name bunch continues to make halftime and also in game adjustments which have led to their hot start this season. They went on to win 14-7 from there.
This is their second straight win and third overall for the season as the win improves their record to 3-5. They will host Beaumont next Tuesday who is coming off a loss to Padua last night on the road. The 14 goals is a Holy Name record and through just 8 games this season, they have already shown drastic improvement under head coach Todd Kortowich in year two with the program.
