Holy Name’s defense rose to the occasion on opening night by holding Padua scoreless. Creating turnovers, and holding Padua’s offense scoreless, Holy Name’s defense is ready for their run in the Great Lakes Athletics Conference.
Holy Name, looking to build of a successful 2020 season, defeated Padua 20 – 0 in front of 2,200 at North Royalton’s Bob Serpentini Field. According to Holy Name’s Linebacker Coach Mike Kelley, Holy Name is returning 19 starters from last year’s playoff team.
One of those players is Junior Quarterback Jayvon Williams who opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Eric Jones. He also had a good night running the ball.
Running Back, Krizition Sanchez, who also plays defensive line, broke free for a 78-yard Touchdown run in the second quarter shedding and leaping over would be tacklers on his way to the end zone.
He also added a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The Green Wave’s balanced offense and staunch defense proved to be to much for their rivals, from Parma.
Padua fans went home feeling confident that they have a young quarterback, sophomore Tyler Tusai, and a young offensive line he can develop with. Although he came up on the short end of the scoreboard, Tyler, 6’4” and 210 lbs., showed great maturity and tools as a sophomore. Padua has a young team that will is looking to repeat as a Region 10 state qualifier.
The final score may not reflect it Padua quarterback, Sophomore Tyler Tusai played a very important part in keeping the game close until the final quarter. He was also the Punter for the Bruins. Padua will look to bounce back from their opening night loss, as they host Orrville on Friday at home.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Krizition Sanchez for not only his dominant running tonight and timely touchdown runs, but also as a part of the Green Wave defense that held Padua scoreless.
