It was all Holy Name tonight as they traveled to Byers Field to take on crosstown rival Normandy in a 2025 Lid opener. The Namers jumped out to a 21-0 lead on their way to a massive 55-12 victory.
Early touchdown runs by Xavier Rodriguez and Kayden Parker placed Holy Name on top just 7 minutes into the action. By the close of the first quarter they led 21-0 on the strength of a Connor Jamison to Eso Gonzalez touchdown connection.
From there, Normandy attempted to rally with two straight touchdowns of their own before Holy Name struck back with one more first half score of their own. The points coming from a Nick Nemeth 22-yard touchdown scamper.
Then, just when it looked like the game would go to half with Holy Name only up 28-12, it was Nick Nemeth scoring again, this time on defense with a brilliant 50 yard pick six. Nemeth is clearly here, “to show the world”. IFYKYK. The extra point was no good as the Namers took a 34-12 lead into the break.
The Nick Nemeth show picked up in the second half with another touchdown run to make it 41-12 Holy Name with 8:26 to play in the third quarter. A short while later, Kayden Parker put it away for good with a touchdown run from 1 yard out to make it 48-12 midway through the third. The final Namer score came on their second pick six of the night as Noah Wallace did the honors with a 30 yard interception for a touchdown.
