Parma Heights, OH- Holy Name completes the season sweep over Normandy with a 76-54 victory led by Drew Styers’ 22 points and Adam Humenik’s 17 points.

This game had many storylines before the opening tip. Kailen Pottinger and Tommy Krilosky both missed the game for the Invaders due to injury. With Pottinger being a senior, he missed out on one final chance to beat his former high school. For Holy Name, the headlines looked more positive. Jeffrey Jemison missed the Elyria Catholic game but returned to the court tonight. Andrew Cole returned from his 4-game suspension as well.

Holy Name dominated the first quarter. The spacing, shot selection, and defense were all on point. Joe Lewis along with Styers and Humenik quickly gave the Green Wave a 6-0 lead which led to a timeout being called by the Invaders. The points kept coming for HN as Humenik would add 4 more points. Max Bollin added his only 2 points of the half. Finally, Cole knocked down a triple and Aaron Riley knocked down 2 from outside the arc. For Normandy, Alex Rivera converted two 3’s and Austin Konicki added the final 2 points of the quarter. The Green and White led 21-8 after the first.

The second quarter was a back and forth 8 minutes. While Cole was on the court, Holy Name’s offense worked as well as it did in the first. Once he subbed out, things changed in favor of Normandy. Rivera added a pair of 3’s this quarter to take his tally up to 14 total at the half. Overall, he would score 7 times from outside the arc. Humenik led the way for the Green Wave in the first half as he took his tally up to 9 in the second quarter. At the break, the home team led 35-18.

The third quarter saw more of the same for Holy Name. However, the opening minutes were sloppy for both sides as turnovers were traded. Styers would emerge as a real scoring threat in this quarter as he scored 8 of his 22 total points. Riley closed out his scoring on the night with a field goal. Bollin added 5 points to take his game tally up to 7. For Normandy, Rivera struggled as all 3 of his points this quarter came from the free throw line. Austin Piercy and Elijah Gray led the way with 3 points each. Heading into the final quarter, Holy Name led 56-33.

Normandy would have their best quarter to close the game out. They would go on to outscore HN 21-20 behind 11 points from Rivera. However, the story of this quarter came down the stretch. Holy Name head coach Ryan Patton subbed out his starters to give minutes to some of the JV players. One such player was Jeremy Pivonka. This was the second game he was suited for, but this was his first opportunity to make an impact. He did just that by making a 3 to give him his first varsity points. It was smiles all around for Pivonka and the Green Wave as they got the job done 76-54.

Holy Name now improves to 9-6 on the season and 7-0 in the GLC. With this win, Valley Forge, Buckeye, and North Olmsted are all eliminated from GLC Title contention. However, things only get tougher for the Green Wave as they travel to Akron to take on defending Division 1 champions Archbishop Hoban Tuesday night. Normandy has a week to regroup before they welcome Buckeye to the Invader Dome.
