LAKEWOOD, OH – Holy Name came into frosty Lakewood on Thursday night and came away with a solid 6-3 victory over the Rangers.  The game was knotted up at 3 about halfway through the third quarter when a timeout was called, adjustments were made and the Namers scored the next 3 goals over the final 6 plus minutes of the quarter to seal the win.  They then played outstanding defense in the fourth to make the lead stick.

To start the night, Holy Name used a turnover at midfield to set up a play deep in the attack zone.  They worked it around a bit until Kristen Maurer found a lane and sent one sailing to put the Namers up 1-0 a little over 2 minutes into the action.  Less then thirty seconds after that, it was Katie Vuong reaching the score sheet with a goal, extending the Holy Name lead to 2-0 with 8:50 still to play in the first.

From there, the Namers did a decent job keeping the Rangers off the board until the 4:47 mark of the first when they used a free possession to score their first goal of the contest.  The free po goal come off the stick off of Louella Dar. The Namers had a chance to score late in the first but couldn’t convert as it remained 2-1 Holy Name after 8 minutes of action.

The Namers came out firing in the second quarter with a goal just 55 seconds into the action.  The goal coming from the stick of Claire Wisniewski.  She literally scooped it off the ground with her stick and sent a rainbow eqsue sky high shot that arced over Holy Name for the goal.  This trick shot increased the Namer lead to 3-1 with 11:05 to play in the second.

Lakewood had a chance to cut in the lead with a Free Possession with 7:37 left in the second, but the shot was deflected by Holy Name, keeping the tilt at 3-1.  The Namers did it again a short while later, saving another Free Possession, but the Rangers eventually broke through to score, again by Dar, making it 3-2 with 6:38 to play. The match went to half by that same score of Holy Name leading 3-2.

The Rangers came out of the break a team on a mission as a goal from Dar quickly tied it up. A time out was called with 6:44 to play in the third with the match still knotted up at 3, as each team formulated a game plan for the final 18 minutes of action to come.

It was clear that the adjustments made, favored Holy Name as they went onto to score the final 3 goals of the game to take home the 6-3 road win.  Those goals coming from Katie Vuong with 2:24 to play in the third and then another goal a little over a minute later from Erin O’Connor. The final goal of the night was scored by Claire Wisniewski to hand them a 6-3 lead headed into the fourth.
