In the second round of the division 2 playoffs of the OHSAA the Hoban Knights hosted the Lake Blue Streaks. This game was a lot closer than most people thought it would be as Hoban struggled at times throughout the game. Hoban was a heavy favorite in this matchup but Lake came ready to play.
After Lake punted on their first drive, Hoban drove 75 yards ending with a 25 yard touchdown pass to Jackson Callaway from Trent Hayden giving Hoban a 7-0 lead. Thanks to some good defense on both sides the first quarter ended with Hoban leading 7-0. In the second quarter a 65 yard catch by Lake wide receiver Ethan Hunt led to a 10 yard touchdown run by Charlie Christopher tying the game at 7 all. More good defense and some poor play calling on offense caused the half to end with the score tied at 7.
Hoban opened up the second half with a touchdown drive as Jackson Callaway caught a 13 yard touchdown pass to give Hoban a 14-7 lead in the third quarter. However, Lake quickly responded with a 38 yard touchdown run by Charlie Christopher to tie the game at 14. On Hoban’s next drive wide receiver John Johnson caught a 47 yard pass which set up a 1 yard touchdown run by Brayton Feister. Hoban led 21-14 at the end of the third quarter.
Neither team could put together effective drives in the fourth quarter and time was running out for Lake to make a comeback. However, with about 6 minutes remaining Hoban fumbled the ball at their own 30 yard line which was recovered by Lake. Unfortunately for Lake their offense failed to convert on fourth down and Hoban ran out the remainder of the clock to win by a final score of 21-14.
