A chilly night at North Gateway Tire Field started off fast for the Medina Highland Hornets. On the opening drive, quarterback Dylan Borla dumped off a screen to his running back Casey Myser, who took it 25 yards for a touchdown, giving the Hornets an early lead. Fremont Ross looked to respond but failed to do so.
The Little Giants QB Karson Kayden coughed up a fumble, which was recovered by Ryan Zywiec of Highland. A few plays later, the Hornets capitalized on Fremont’s miscue as Evan Foust took the end-around handoff 40 yards, setting them up nicely within the ten-yard line. Two plays later, Casey Myser punched it in up the gut for a 1-yard score. The Little Giants answered quickly. Borla found Jadrian Brown deep down the left side of the field for a 57-yard bomb, which put Fremont on the board.
An action-filled second quarter began with a Casey Myser 17-yard touchdown run, giving the Hornets a 21-7 lead. The Little Giants looked to answer once again, but that came to an end when Kyle Williams picked off a tipped Karson Kayden pass and returned it 24 yards for a pick six. Highland stayed hot, with Borla finding a wide-open Myser who pranced his way to a 63-yard score, giving the Hornets a 35-7 lead going into the half.
Highland picked up right where they left off in the first half. Dylan Borla looked deep down the field to find Nick Dobkowski all by himself for a 59-yard touchdown to spark the second-half scoring. A few three-and-outs later, the Hornets found their way back in the endzone as Casey Myser ran the ball in from 23 yards out, increasing Highland’s lead to 35.
The rolling clock began, and both teams emptied their benches in the final quarter. The only scoring action in the fourth came from the leg of the Hornets kicker Jonah Kowza. He booted a 40-yard field goal right down the middle to cap off the night. Kowza also made all 7 of his PAT’s on the night.
The Fremont Ross Little Giants are eliminated from the OHSAA Division II playoffs with the loss. With the win, the Medina Highland Hornets will host the St. Francis de Sales Knights in the second round.
