Highland Hornets Race Out to Early Lead to Beat Revere Minutemen 49-7

Richfield, OH – Nine down, one more to go.

In what a was a battle of supremacy in the Suburban League American Conference, the Highland Hornets took advantage of some early Revere Minutemen miscues to win 49-7. The Hornets clinch at least a part of the American Conference and will win it for the third time in the last four years.

After the first drive stalled out for Revere, Lucas Gerding returned a punt for a touchdown to start the scoring for both teams. Immediately thereafter, the snap hit Harrison Drvenkar in motion before Dan Miller picked it up for another Hornets touchdown, making it 14-0 before the offense touched the ball. The first quarter was more of the same as the Hornets took advantage of a short field when Grady Gibb threw a touchdown pass to Evan Foust. On their next drive, Dylan Lazar punched in a rushing touchdown, and the first quarter closed with a 28-0 Highland lead.

To start the second quarter, Revere had a long and winding drive that took them inside Highland’s 30 yard line. Eventually facing a fourth and 11, Chase Clifford’s pass to the endzone was broken up and the Hornets took advantage of another turnover with a touchdown. Kallen Whitling and Liam Zielinski each had an interception in the first half and Highland was up 42-0 when they hit the dressing room.

With a running clock for the entirety of the second half, the Hornets got the ball first. They killed more than half the clock in the third quarter with a touchdown drive and made it a 49-0 game courtesy of a Casey Myser run. Revere’s only hurrah that night would be a long touchdown drive coming from the starters against the Hornet backups. For Highland, punter Landon Kuzma was only summoned once, with the punt going to the 20 yard line.

The Hornets now go to 9-0 on the season and are 6-0 conference play. They are also the only undefeated team in the Suburban League American Conference. Their game against Barberton was rewarded to them as a forfeit from a few weeks ago. The RevereĀ  goes down to 6-2 on the 2025 campaign with their only other loss being to Aurora. The Hornets and Minutemen will celebrate senior night next week, with Highland being against Cuyahoga Falls and Revere against their bitter rival in Copley.
