Granger, OH – For the second year in a row and the third time in the last four years, the Highland Hornets are 10-0 in the regular season.
In what was their ninth running clock of the season, the Hornets beat the Black Tigers by a final score of 62-0, cementing the seniors’ legacies fittingly on senior night. The lowest margin of victory for Highland was a 27 point win over Avon Lake week three that could’ve easily been a running clock contest. In the last five years, Mike Gibbons has led the Highland Hornets to an unbelievable 38-2 record and 47-3 in the last five regular seasons.
Grady Gibb started the scoring three plays through the game with a 16 yard touchdown scramble. On the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers turned the ball over and would give up a touchdown the next play. This one being a 16 yard pass from Gibb to Lucas Gerding. When Cuyahoga Falls finally got the ball, they went three and out and their punt was blocked in the endzone for a touchdown. It all cumulated to a 30-0 outburst in the first quarter and a running clock for the final 36 minutes.
Cuyahoga Falls seemingly couldn’t get anything going against the tough Hornets defense as they only recorded one first down all game. Courtesy of Dylan Lazar and Gibb running in touchdowns in the second and a safety, the Hornets were up with a whopping 46-0 lead at the half. The Hornets let their second stringers have a blast when Aiden Pulice gunned a 59 yard touchdown to Ben Radigan. The shellacking finished with them winning 62-0 over the Black Tigers.
As mentioned earlier, Highland finishes the regular season 10-0 for the second straight season. They will have the first round off before playing again on November 7th at home. The game was their third shutout on defense all season long while Falls was shutout for the fourth time this year. This was the final meeting for both teams as Suburban League American Conference foes as the Hornets will switch to the National side next year and the Black Tigers, who finished the year 1-9, will join the Metro Athletic Conference next year. The Tigers never won an American Conference football game since switching sides in 2021.
