Football North Prep Academy traveled from Mississauga, Ontario for a week three matchup against the Mentor Cardinals. Due to rain and lighting within the area, the game lasted just 49 seconds in the second half before both teams went back to the locker room. An hour later, the game got called and as a result, Mentor would secure the win, 28-15 over Football North.
An opening drive lasting just 80 seconds gave Football North an 8-0 advantage following running back’s Nathan Demontagnac’s 20-yard touchdown run and converted two-point conversion. Ian Kipp got the Cardinals on the scoreboard following a two-yard touchdown run five minutes later.
Junior linebacker Evan Boyd intercepted North’s Quincy Vaughn and returned it 34 yards for a pick-six to push the Cardinal lead to 14-8. Two minutes later, Kipp connected on a 61-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Justin Luke to give Mentor a 21-8 lead at the time. Mentor’s stout defense held Football North in check most of the first half, but they were able to find the endzone one more time before halftime.
Vaughn was able to keep it and tuck away down the middle of the secondary from 19 yards out with six minutes left to play in the half. Mentor’s final drive of the half resulted in seven more points, Kipp’s two-yard touchdown run gave him his second rushing touchdown of the first half, third total and Mentor was able to head into halftime with a 28-15 lead.
The win now gives the Cardinals a 3-0 record and head into next week with a road matchup against Elyria.
