HAYES: Cleveland Browns Draft Class Grades

SHOP

The Cleveland Browns’ 2025 Draft has officially concluded, and it was an interesting one, to say the least. The Browns would also make a significant trade on the first day with the Jaguars.

Within this trade, the Browns gave up the number two overall pick, a fourth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for the number five overall pick, a second-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and Jacksonville’s 2026 first-round pick.

That said, I will grade each pick the Cleveland Browns have made in this year’s draft and give my insight on said picks. Find my grades, brief analyses, and thoughts on each player below:

1st Round – Pick 5: DT Mason Graham, Michigan

Grade: B-

This was not the pick that Cleveland fans thought the front office was going to take. However, after the trade with the Jaguars to move from pick two to pick five, the Browns’ front office must have seen something in Graham we didn’t. This pick could’ve been a whole lot worse, and I think that this pick may turn out to be pretty good. Graham has great size playing at DT and should complement Myles Garrett pretty well. Though Mason Graham isn’t known for his sacks, he is a great tackler who should help the Browns’ run defense significantly.

2nd Round – Pick 33: LB Carson Schwesinger, UCLA

Grade: C-

This was a pick that I and many others were completely shocked about. Schwesinger was a walk-on at UCLA who was able to make a good name for himself in his three seasons with the Bruins. Schwesinger is a great tackler but is a pretty raw player who has tremendous upside. I feel like this pick was made due to the front office’s uncertainty with our LB core, especially considering who knows when JOK should return to the field.

2nd Round – Pick 36 (From Jaguars): RB Quinshon Judkins, The Ohio State University

Grade: B+

Quinshon Judkins was one of the players I wanted the Browns to draft the most in this year’s 2025 NFL Draft. With the uncertainty of Chubb’s health and whether the Browns are even going to resign him, this was a great pick for the Cleveland Browns. Judkins has tremendous speed, running a time of 4.48 during the 40-yard dash. Though Judkins was splitting carries at tOSU, he has shown the true potential of being a number one back during his time at Ole Miss. The Cleveland Browns drafted Quinshon Judkins as their future running back.

3rd Round – Pick 67: TE Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green

Grade: C+

The Browns are drafting locally with this pick as Fannin Jr. grew up in Canton, OH. Fannin Jr. is a phenomenal catch and run TE but isn’t known for his blocking, which is a staple within the Browns’ run game. Though Fannin Jr. is a great TE, this pick just didn’t make much sense drafting another catch and run TE. However, his upside is very good, and he has a strong possibility of making an impact on offense, even on third downs.

3rd Round – Pick 94 (From Bills): QB Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

Grade: D

I did not like this pick by the Browns one bit. Gabriel was a solid QB during his college career, but his size and age are something that makes me look away, and I feel as if he has plateaued already. I would have loved to see the Browns draft Will Howard at this spot, as he was the QB I wanted the Browns to draft the most. There were also many better QBs still left on the board during this time that the Browns passed up as well. I am curious to see how this pick will pan out.

4th Round – Pick 126 (From Jaguars): RB Dylan Sampson, Tennessee

Grade: C

With the Browns drafting Quinshon Judkins and the possibility of bringing Chubb back still looming in the air, this pick didn’t make much sense to me. Though this pick would probably receive a higher grade from me if I knew the Browns were going to bring Chubb back, I just don’t see this pick benefiting the Browns all that much at this time. Sampson is a great back and had a great career with the Volunteers, earning SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Sampson has tons of potential and could become a valuable asset to the Browns run game if Chubb isn’t brought back.

5th Round – Pick 144 (From Seahawks): QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado

Grade: B

Everyone was wondering why he was sliding so much and who was going to draft him. Well, the Cleveland Browns pulled the trigger and drafted Shedeur Sanders. Sanders was arguably the best player coming into the draft and arguably the number one overall pick. Though I didn’t want the Browns to draft Sanders by any means, I do think that it is a risk worth taking him so far into the draft, considering what we know he can do. The Browns’ QB room has taken a complete turn as they now have Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and now two new draftees, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. It will be very interesting to see how the Browns deal with this QB situation and what they decide to do to start the 2025 season.
