Shaker Heights, Ohio – Thanks in part to a strong second quarter, the Hathaway Brown Blazers remained unbeaten on the year with a 14-5 win over Kenston Saturday afternoon.

Junior captain Faith Faremouth opened up the scoring with a goal 31 seconds into the game. Kenston knotted things up with a goal from senior Carmella Nillson at the 5:02 mark. Junior Eliza Taigen gave Hathway Brown the lead, 2-1, with a goal at the 3:44 mark. The Blazers would keep this lead at the end of the quarter.

The Blazers’ offense got off and running in the second quarter. Senior Emily Morgan scored to increase the lead to 3-1 with 10:44 left in the second quarter. Her sister and fellow senior Anna Morgan added a pair of goals at 8:41 and 7:05 in the quarter, increasing the lead to 5-1. Sophomore Caroline Morgan also got in on the scoring, finding the back of the net with seven seconds left.

After winning the ensuing faceoff, Emily Morgan added a goal to beat the halftime horn, increasing Hathaway Brown’s lead to 7-1.

Like the first quarter, Faith Faremouth added a goal less than a minute into the third, to increase the lead to 8-1. Carmella Nillson scored twice in the third quarter, and Emily Morgan added her third for the Blazers midway through the stanza.

The Blazers continued scoring in the fourth quarter.

Emily Morgan added her fourth less than 30 seconds into the frame. Presley Napolitano scored a pair of goals in the final frame around Caroline Morgan’s second goal. Napolitano’s second goal with 7:38 left increased the lead to 13-3, triggering the running clock.

Carmella Nillson put a stop to it at the 5:54 mark with her fourth goal of the game for Kenston. She added one more tally with 55 seconds to play. Eliza Taigen put a cap on the scoring with her second goal for Hathaway Brown with 12 seconds to play.

Through five games, the Hathaway Brown Blazers have an average of 13.1 goals per game. Another key factor to their success is their ability to win faceoffs after goals, giving them additional scoring chances throughout Saturday’s game.

Hathaway Brown moves to 5-0 on the season. The Blazers will host Chardon on Tuesday, April 15th at 6:00pm.

Kenston, now 4-1, takes on rival Chagrin Falls on Wednesday, April 16th, at 7:00pm.
