Shaker Heights, Ohio – The Hathaway Brown Blazers won their third straight regional championship with a 15-7 victory over the visiting Chardon Hilltoppers Friday evening.
Hathaway Brown led 4-2 after the first quarter. Eliza Taigen and Emily Morgan each scored 40 seconds apart, increasing the Blazer lead to 6-2. Preston Napolitano and Caroline Morgan scored just over a minute apart, widening the margin to 8-2. Emily Morgan added her fifth goal, increasing the lead to 9-2. Eliza Taigen found the back of the net for the second time in the quarter, increasing the lead to 10-2 at the halftime break.
Anna Morgan pushed the Blazer margin to 11-2 at the 9:32 mark of the third quarter. Chardon responded with a rally of their own.
Kaelyn Cardina scored three minutes later to trim the deficit to 11-3. Ailena Stockton and Payton Platz added goals to further cut into the Blazer margin, 11-5. Emily Morgan responded with her sixth goal of the game, increasing Hathaway Brown’s lead to 12-5. Elle Dezczykiewicz responded with a goal to make the score 12-6 after the third quarter.
Dezczykiewicz added another goal, cutting the Topper deficit to 12-7 less than 90 seconds into the third quarter. Anna Morgan scored with 7:34 left to increase the lead to 13-7. Georgia Nygard scored with 2:12 left, and Eliza Taigen added her third goal at the end of the game for the final margin.
Hathaway Brown advanced to their third straight state semifinal. They will take on the winner of Bay and Walsh Jesuit at Copley High School on Wednesday, June 4th at 7:00pm.
