The Cougars started off this game taking advantage of lapse in the Glenville defense with a connection from Genetti to Sears for 50 yards and from there Glenville locked in and got an Interception in Lake’s endzone after the Cougars went for the 4th down conversion. Both teams were displaying immaculate defense the whole first quarter and then lightning struck for the Tarblooders on a 92 yard pick 6 by Aaron Scales at the 2:57 mark.
The crowd was electric the whole run, it felt like a special moment. The Tarblooders continued to lock down with another pick at the 28 yard line by Jaylen Edwards. As Lake displayed good defense and discipline for the 2nd pick to not rattle them. Jaquan Gibson from Glenville picked up an interception with 23 seconds left in the 1st quarter, their 3rd pick of the night. First quarter ended at 7-0 in favor of Glenville.
Glenville came in the 2nd quarter with possession and racked up good yardage to put themselves in position for an eventual 3 yard TD run by Chris Newell Jr. The rest of the quarter was action packed when it came to great defense from both sides, each team delivered. The first half ended 13-0, Glenville.
Romell Phillips for Glenville opened up the 2nd half running with prowess and conviction. A spark for the team to continue their run for a 3rd a touchdown. The 3rd quarter was a slow paced one but it picked back up in the 4th with a forced fumble going Glenville’s way leading to a 17 yard TD by Romell Phillips. They continued to assert themselves with another touchdown from the 23rd yard line on a successful run.
The score was 28-0. The Tarblooders had the Cougar’s number all night, coming up with 4 total picks. It was truly a defensive masterclass, if I’ve seen one. The ending score was 28-0 with the Glenville Tarblooders coming away with a convincing victory en route to the next round of the playoffs.
The star of the night was Romell Phillips, he dominated on the ground and ran for multiple touchdowns. The Cougars had an amazing year, going undefeated the entire season but unfortunately they just met a more formidable opponent. Overall a great game and I look forward to what’s in the future for both teams.
