Gilmour Academy advances to third straight regional final with 64-56 OT win over Glenville

Canton, Ohio – Gilmour Academy defeated Glenville, 62-56, in overtime in the Thursday nightcap of the Division II regional semifinals at the Canton Civic Center.

The Lancers led 11-9 after the first quarter, thanks in part to the efforts of Brandon Rose. Rose had seven points in the period. Glenville responded with a 12-2 run to start the second quarter. Domareyan Oliver had six points in the period for the Tarblooders, and Jakobi Laster sank a triple.

The Lancers cut into their deficit over the last three minutes of the half. Their deficit stood at 21-13 at the 3:11 mark of the second quarter, and they responded with a brief 6-2 run to cut the Glenville lead to 23-19 going into the halftime break.

The Tarblooders controlled the pace in the second quarter, and much of the third quarter, as Jakobi Laster scored 12 points. Gilmour Academy had a response, as Brandon Rose and Adisa Molton combined for 16 of the Lancers’ 23 total in the quarter.

A Dorjan Flowers layup gave the Lancers the lead, 42-41 at the end of three.

The fourth quarter was much of the same back-and-forth as the first three. Glenville took back the lead, thanks to a Monte Young triple, followed by layups from Jayden Prather and Jakobi Laster. The Tarblooders’ lead stood at 52-48 with 3:25 remaining in regulation.

Once again, Gilmour had a response as Jimmy Lawless hit a triple, and Dorjan Flowers hit a pair of free throws. Adisa Molton split a pair of free throws. This brief run put the Lancers on top, 54-52, with less than a minute to play.

Jakobi Laster drew a shooting foul on the following possession. He sank a pair of free throws to knot the score at 54. Each team had a chance to win in regulation, but neither could get a shot off.

Glenville took their last lead thanks to a pair of split free throws. Brandon Rose responded with a layup to give Gilmour Academy the lead, 56-55. A Dorjan Flowers layup increased the lead to 58-55.

The Lancers built off the momentum, holding the Tarblooders without a single field goal in the overtime period. Adisa Molton made sure the lead would stick, hitting six free throws to lock away the victory.

Gilmour Academy, now 17-10, advances to their third straight regional final, where they will take on Akron Buchtel in a rematch of last year’s North Ridgeville district final. Senior guard Adisa Molton led the Lancers with 21 points, followed by classmate Brandon Rose, who had 18.
