UFC Fight Island debuted tonight on ESPN and it was as good as to be expected.  If there was ever a night in which the world needed the return of sports, this was it. Let’s get right to it fight fans!

Holy cow is Katlyn Chookagian the real deal.  It was an absolute three round blowout victory over Antonina Shevchenko.  It was never close and Chookagian spent three rounds dominating and breaking the will of Shevnchenko as the 30-25 scores showed. That’s two 10-8 rounds in one fight and you almost never see that.

Mackenzie Dern may not only be the sexiest woman in UFC history, but she is slowly starting to show how dangerous she can be as well.

She is more than just good looks, much more and she showed it tonight with an impressive kneebar in just 2:36 over Hannah Cifers.  The win puts Dern back into the winning column and improves her overall record to 8-1.

Roosevelt Roberts looked calm, in control and took care of matters with little to no issues.  He got the inside, took down Brok Weaver and grinded out a two round submission victory.

He is now 10-1, 5-1 in the UFC and will continue to stay on main cards as he improves.  A win over Brok Weaver is impressive and Roosevelts will continue to be heard from.

The fights between Billy Quarantillo versus Spike Carlyle and Augusto Sakai versus Blagoy vs Ivanov ended in decision with Quarantillo and Sakai taking home the narrow wins.  Neither fight was anything to write home about.

In the main event tonight, Gilbert Burns put the UFC and the MMA world on notice, he is for real and may be on the fast track to a title shot.

Burns made it look like a walk in the park tonight for his sixth straight win, improving his overall record to 19-3 and 12-3 in the UFC.  Burns can do it all with ease, strike, grapple and submit you.  This was a blow out from start to finish and never close.

Tyron Woodley looked lost all night and it appeared as though he didn’t want to be in there at times as Burns controlled the pace al fight long.

Woodley doesn’t even close to his best days as champion and will need to get things turned around quickly as this is his second straight poor performance, and his 4th in his last five, despite the win and draw over Stephen Thompson that many felt he lost both.
