GBB: Magnificat Defeats Medina 62-39 in Cleveland Basketball Classic

BEREA, OH- The 3pm tip-off featured the game between the Medina Bees and Magnificat Blue Streaks. This matchup featured a more methodical pace to begin the action, with the Blue Streaks starting off with the lead.

Medina stuck with their opponent, trailing 12-6 with 1:30 left before the Blue Streaks’ Julia Hall nailed a three and Brynn Roggenburk stretched the lead to 11 before the end of the quarter.

Hall continued her strong showing, splashing another three almost midway through the second quarter to put the Blue Streaks up 20-8 with 5:14 to go. While Medina was fighting hard for extra chances, the second and third opportunities weren’t falling through the hoop.

Magnificat went into half leading Medina 32-18, picking their spots to capitalize and make the defense pay for it.

The Blue Streaks continued to run their offense through Hall. Whenever there was a need to keep extend the lead out further, Hall was the one to go to. From the free-throw line to three-pointers and even underneath the basket, Hall was everywhere.

Midway through the third quarter, Magnificat led the Bees 44-23.

The Blue Streaks continued to attack the paint, as the extra attention put on their teammate opened up lanes and easy baskets. A beautiful transition by Hall to spin and score brought the lead to 48-23, the largest lead of the game at that point.

Though the Bees never stopped being aggressive in their fight, Medina couldn’t keep up with Hall and the Blue Streaks’ firepower. Magnificat would end up keeping onto their large lead and finishing strong.

The Blue Streaks won the game over the Bees by a final score of 62-39.

Magnificat Head Coach Daniel Gallagher talked about the impact Hall has on the Blue Streaks’ success. “We talk about it all the time. Everyone on this team has a role and Julia knows her role and she does really well in her role. That doesn’t mean she brings more value than anyone else, but her role is really important to us and she fulfills it all the time. She’s worked really hard to get to where she’s at and we love her. She’s great.”
