In a wild day for local Ohio sports there was another MACtion matchup between two Ohio teams. The Golden Flashes traveled to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami Redhawks. How would the Golden Flashes perform after their impressive comeback win last week?

Much like the Guardians offense who did not score for the first 14 innings of today’s game, the Kent State offense struggled early in this homecoming game for Miami, after the first quarter it was a 17-0 Miami lead. A lot of the same issues from last week’s game showed up in this week six matchup. Fumbling still proves to be an issue for the Flashes. Raymond James fumbled a punt return. Collin Schlee had a fumble today, which was recovered by the Flashes,  and on a first down catch Dante Cephas had a fumble that was also recovered by the team. But the problem with ball security still appears to be an issue for the Golden Flashes.

Despite the 27-24 loss for the Golden Flashes it was an impressive second half for the team, and the Flash offense scored the last 10 points of this game as Kent State tried for the comeback, it just proved to be a little too late against this Redhawks team in their homecoming game.

The two stand outs of this game for the Golden Flashes are Collin Schlee and Devontez Walker. Schlee finished the game with 306 passing yards and three touchdown passes in the loss. Then Walker, Walker showed up and showed out today. Walker finished the game with 11 catches and 159 yards with two touchdown catches to go with it.

Cephas also performed well per usual for him. Cephas ended up finishing with nine catches, 118 yards and a touchdown catch today.

This was a very impressive win for the Redhawks, Aveon Smith is a big reason for this win. Smith may not have finished with a touchdown pass today, but he did finish with 179 passing yards and 71 rushing yards in today’s win over the Golden Flashes. Including a 31 yard rush in a late drive to help secure the win.

The next game for the Golden Flashes is against the Toledo Rockets, easily the best team in the whole conference for the first half of the 2022 season. The Golden Flashes need to improve ball security and penalties. This was something that Coach Sean Lewis had mentioned in last week’s post game press conference. But in today’s game it still looks like the offense is going to need more improvement when it comes to holding onto the ball.

The Flashes will be heavy underdogs in the game next week, it will be interesting to see how the team performs. With the first two weeks of MAC play the Flashes have not looked anywhere near as impressive as they did against Georgia.
