IWGP Champion Jon Moxley defeats Konosuke Takeshita in a NON-TITLE MATCH
TERRIBLE BOOKING DECISION #3
Takeaway – A champion should never win a non-title match. Clearly, AEW didn’t get that message. No clue why the title wasn’t on the line here or why this was even on a PPV in the first place? Moxley did manage to have a match without blood for once. Good match, but the bad booking hurts it long-term.
Adam Copeland defeats Malacki Black to retain the TNT Championship
TERRIBLE BOOKING DECISION #4
Takeaway – So, apparently the first person to escape the cage wins rule doesn’t apply to AEW as Adam Copeland literally got kicked out of the cage, and the match just kept going. This was about 5 minutes after he took 15 minutes to climb the cage, build suspense, only to drop a standing elbow. I don’t know, was I crazy to expect more? This was a bloodbath minutes in with plenty of action, but it did seem overbooked at times too. In the end, it was Gangrel showing up to help Adam Copeland. Again, I don’t know, it was a great match, but you have two guys pushing 50 years old, defeat one of the hottest stables in the company. Next….
Mercedes Mone defeats Willow Nightingale to win the TNT Women’s Championship
Takeaway – WOW! What an action-packed match where Mone reminded everyone why she is one of the best pound for pound female wrestlers in the world. If the former Sasha Banks is going to turn around the AEW Women’s Division, matches like this will help. She sold amazingly well, and then delivered big moves when the time called for them. It was an excellent first match with the promotion for Mone.
TERRIBLE BOOKING DECISION #5
Why in the world was a Kris Statlander heel turn against Willow afterwards needed? You take away from the Mone milestone moment quickly for what reason? It wasn’t needed and just plain asinine to have in that exact moment after a five-star match.
