Firelands Win Their Second Game In Row And Shut Out Brookside 28-0

Oberlin, OH – The Firelands Falcons ran early and often in route to their second straight victory 28-0 against the Brookside Cardinals.

On their first drive of the game, Brookside held the ball for nearly half of the first quarter. The drive would see senior QB Nick Arra go 4 for 4 for 27 yards passing, also rushing the ball twice for 10 yards. Unfortunately for Brookside, the drive would also see them committing three penalties, which included a five-yard false start on fourth and two that would force the Cardinals to punt. On their second play, a 2nd and 14, would see senior Tyler Kitzberger run the ball for a big 41-yard run. The drive would stall, however, and they would be forced to punt.

Firelands would get the ball at their own 20 and run it with a combination of senior RB Collin Scott, junior RB Jimmy Berry, and sophomore QB Liam Tobicash, who had a 43-yard run. Tobicash would finish through the air as he would throw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Berry to make it a 7-0 Falcons lead.

The next Brookside drive would start promising, with runs by seniors Dominic Lundbuerg and Nick Arra, combining for 31 yards. Unfortunately for Arra, he would be injured on his run, and his night would come to an end. On the next play, backup QB Mathew Waechter’s pass would be intercepted by Max Stinston of the Falcons.

The trio of Scott, Berry, and Tobicash would run wild again, with one pass from Tobicash to sophomore Lucas Green mixed in. Tobicash would run the ball from 17 yards out to make it a 13-0 game, which would be the halftime score.

In the second half, the Falcons would get back on the scoreboard on their second drive of the half. Collin Scott would run the ball five times for 67 yards on the drive, including 35 yards that would end with him in the end zone, making it 19-0 in favor of Firelands.

On their next drive, the Falcons went three and out, but on the punt, they got a big gust of wind, and the punt would hit a Cardinals player. Both teams dove into the mud to try to corral the rain-soaked football, and Firelands would come up with it. Scott would then run the ball five straight times, picking up 24 yards. The drive would end with a Caleb Crawford field goal, making it 22-0. Firelands would pick up one last touchdown late in the game, as Tobicash would find Green again for another touchdown pass, making it 28-0, which would be the final score.

With the win, Firelands is now 2-4 on the season, 2-1 in LC8 play. They will be tested in the next two weeks, with road games at undefeated Clearview and one loss at Keystone. For Brookside, it does not get any easier, as they will get Keystone on the road next week.

Players of the game: QB Liam Tobicash, Firelands. The senior dual-threat QB went 6/10 for 87 yards with two passing touchdowns. On the ground, he would rush the ball 15 times for 94 yards and a TD.
