Firelands Falcons Advance With 67-47 Win Over Padua Bruins

This tournament recap is brought to you by – https://keeonsports.com/sponsors/

Rocky River, OH – Consistency was the name of the game today for the Firelands Falcons as they defeated the Pada Bruins 67-47.  They scored 16 each in three quarters, and 17 in another as they kept a steady pace all game that kept Padua playing uphill.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Abby Schmitz with 30 points as she scored at will in each period.  Abby hit 9 field goals, 1 three ball and went 8 of 10 from the charity stripe.  Schmitz was aided by hot hands from Lauren Rounds with 13 and Bella Simmons with 11.

I also want to make mention of Lauren Valerius who finished with 8 but had 6 of those in the first quarter to help Firelands jump out to a commanding 16-4 lead after one and 32 – 14 lead at the break. Padua hadn’t played a game in two weeks for various reasons and the rust was evident early in the loss.

Perhaps if they play again it may be a different story because once the Bruins got their legs underneath them things evened out.  The Bruins matched them point for point in the second half and were led by Alyssa Weber who scored 15 of her team high 17 points in the second half. Weber was automatic from the foul line once again as she went 5 of 5 from the foul line.

Foul shooting continues to be a strength of this Bruin team.  For the game they went an impressive 8 of 9.  Speaking of scoring late, it was Lexi Miller playing up from JV as she finished with 8 points with 6 in the second half.  Also scoring for the Bruins was Eszter Dioszegi with 4, Mikayla Gordon with 2, Sarah Hess with 3, Michela Cario with 4 and Sara Srbinaski with 4 as well.

The Falcons will play for the tournament championship tomorrow against the winner of Rocky River and Lutheran West at 3pm. The Bruins will play in the consolation game at 11am.

  1. That was a good game . I’m
A Firelands fan . And that Padua coach made some solid adjustments in the second half. I would like to think that Padua team will be solid once healthy! Go Falcons in the chip !
