Palmyra Township, Ohio – Thanks to the efforts of senior two-way player Braxton Baumberger, which included three interceptions, and a rushing touchdown, the Field Falcons topped the host Southeast Pirates, 28-6, Friday night at Freedom Field.
It didn’t take long for Field to get the offense going. After the opening kickoff went out of bounds, giving the Falcons great field position, Drexal McAmis capped the drive with a nine-yard touchdown. The ensuing PAT was good, and Field led, 7-0, with 7:48 left in the first.
The Falcons this margin until early in the second quarter. This time, senior Robert Atha took it in from 20 yards out for the first rushing score of his career.
After a stop on defense, the Falcons struck again.
Braxton Baumberger converted a huge fourth-down to keep the Falcon drive going. He would later punch it in from a yard out, increasing the lead to 21-0 with :23.3 left in the first half.
The Field defense had four interceptions on the evening, and Robert Atha had the first of those, intercepting a Randy Williams pass and taking it to the Southeast 9-yard line.
However, Southeast had a huge defensive stand, with senior defensive lineman Evan Riffle taking a fumble deep into Field territory to end the half.
Braxton Baumberger picked off a pass in the third quarter to help set up another Field score. He also completed another huge pass to Garit Greene on the Falcon drive. Drexal McAmis punched it in from two yards out to pad the Falcon lead to 28-0 with 1:56 left in the third. He had 12 carries for 77 yards and the two scores.
Southeast got on the board in the fourth quarter, thanks to a Nate Muncy Jr. touchdown run from a yard out. They would recover a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, setting themselves up in great field position.
However, Baumberger picked off another pass (his third of the night), with 5:53 to go, and the Falcons ate up the remaining clock to secure the win.
Field (1-1) travels to Rootstown next Friday night.
Southeast (1-1) hosts Champion next Friday night.

Baumberger had a whale of a game Friday night. In addition to the three interceptions he had, he also went 8 of 10 passing for 116 yards. On the ground, he had 12 carries for 50 yards and a score.
