Field defeats Akron Springfield, 64-41 on Senior Night

Brimfield, Ohio – The Field Falcons utilized a 15-0 run late in the first quarter to carry them to a victory over the visiting Akron Springfield Spartans, 64-41 in a PTC Metro conference tilt.

“We know they have the ability to put up points in bunches and quickly. And they have a couple of kids that can really fill it up.” said Akron Springfield head coach Tim Cole.

And put up points the Falcons would.

The Field Falcons went on a 15-0 run to end the first quarter after being tied at four apiece. This run featured baskets by Nevada Lowden, Mason Campanelli, and free throws by Zack Davis. From there on, the Falcons continued to attack the inside and play aggressive defense. They swarmed the Spartans at every chance and maintained their lead.

“Playing with passion is one of the things we’ve talked about all season, and Senior Night just adds to that passion. After our sluggish start, we took our passion and tunneled it into good energy.” said Field head coach Ben Swinerton. “They really understood their role and what their legacy will be. They recognize that they are the building blocks of what will be a great program for years to come.” he added.

The Springfield Spartans struggled mightily from the field, being suffocated by the Field defense time and time again. It took a Dylan Hanna free throw with 5:56 left in the second quarter to break their scoring drought.

Field senior Mason Campanelli had twelve points to lead the Falcons, and Nevada Lowden had seven points. Junior forward Zack Davis add ten of his own.

The Spartans went on a 6-0 run to kick off the second half, cutting a 33-13 halftime deficit to fourteen. But a Nevada Lowden three killed the Spartans’ momentum. From there, the Spartans would not convert another bucket until a minute left in the third quarter. The Falcons would pull away from there.

“We knew a lot about this team going in and we didn’t execute our game plan. It doesn’t really matter what I can do if we’re not all ready to go.” said Akron Springfield junior guard Dylan Hanna, who led all scorers with 27 points.

The Field Falcons improved to 3-18 overall and 2-11 in the PTC Metro. They travel to Lodi Cloverleaf to conclude the regular season before postseason play.

The Springfield Spartans drop to 2-18 overall and 1-12 in the PTC Metro. They host Akron Manchester and Akron Coventry to wrap up the regular season.
