The third game of the day was a matchup between the 2 seed Akron Zips and the 7 seed Miami RedHawks. The winner of this contest will go on to face the winner of Ohio and Western Michigan.

Akron avoided the upset and held off the Miami RedHawks at a score of 75 to 63 to move on to the Semi finals once again. They will await the winner of Ohio and Western Michigan who they will play tomorrow night. Akron will be trying to return to the MAC title game that they managed to win as an underdog in 2022.

The RedHawks started the game off with a three-bucket lead as they kept Enrique Freeman away from the ball and forced the Zips to take long shots due to the tough RedHawks defense. The Miami offense earned a fast 10 points from the big 305 pound post man Anderson Mirambeaux who hit a two threes in a row early in the first half. Despite having an impressive first Mirambeaux was relatively quite for the rest of the game as the three-ball failed to go on for the big center.

Miami’s lead would only dissolve until it there was nothing left of the lead at the end of the half. Freeman and Ali Ali proved to be too much as the Zips approached the Miami lead and took it at the end of the first half with a Freeman slam that secured a two point lead at the end of the half.

The second half was all Akron, Miami stayed within 10 points but failed to get any true momentum under their belt as the clock on continued to expire. Once Miami fell outside of 10 points with under five minutes to play the battle seemed all but over.

In a day that was led by underdogs the Akron Zips ensured they would not be the next team to lose to a lower seed. Enrique Freeman was merely unstoppable as he earned himself another double double with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Akron’s co-star scored 14 with 5 assists and rebounds.
