Elyria Pioneers Back Great Defense and Run Game to Win Big Over the Amherst Steele Comets.

It didn’t take long for Elyria to get on the board. They started the scoring just two minutes into the game as Lance Glover punched it in from 1 yard out to make it 7-0.

Just three plays later Amherst would line up for a punt on fourth down. However, that punt would be blocked by Maurice McCree and taken back for a score making it 14-0 just five minutes in.

The ensuing Amherst drive would end in a punt and after a nice return Elyria would take over at the Comets 37-yard line. Six plays later Glover would score again, this time from two yards out. The extra point would be blocked, and the score would be 20-0 Pioneers.

A fumble by Amherst would set up the Pioneers in great field position again. A few plays later Jaden Gilbert would score from 8 yards out making it 27-0 with 1:16 to go in the first quarter.

Another Amherst punt and great Elyria return gave the Pioneers the ball at the Comets 38-yard line. This time it would be Steven Gilbert scoring for the Pioneers as he punched it in from 4 yards out stretching the lead to 34-0.

Once again, the Elyria defense would force a punt and take over in great field position. One play later Jasir Lucky would take the jet sweep 51 yards and fight his way into the endzone. With 5:55 remaining in the second quarter the Pioneers were up 41-0.

Amherst would put together a great drive behind the legs of Bishop Fryson. They would march 65 yards to get their first points of the game with 10 seconds left in the half. Bishop Fryson capped off the drive as he punched it in from four yards out to make it 41-7 going into the half.

Amherst would receive the ball to start the second half and take it 88 yards in 11 minutes and 21 seconds for their second score of the game. Sophomore J.R Bires would score from seven yards out making it 41-14 Pioneers heading into the fourth.

Elyria would answer right back with a touchdown drive of their own. Steven Gilbert would call his own number and power his way in from three yards out for his second score of the game. With 8:54 to go in the game the Pioneers would extend the lead to 47-14.

Amherst would just not stop fighting as they answered back again. J.R Bires would score his second touchdown of the game as he took the handoff eight yards into the endzone. Pioneers still lead 47-21 with 5:56 to play.

The clock would run out and the Pioneers would take this one in dominating fashion 47-21 over the Comets.
