The Elyria Catholic Panthers played host to the Westlake Lady Demons in a defensive matchup Tuesday Night. The Panthers forced turnovers early and often in the first quarter as the Lady Demons could not hang onto the basketball. Those turnovers led to easy points as the Panthers had a 14-2 lead after the first quarter thanks to six points by Junior Isabelle Niederst.
The offense picked up in the second quarter for both teams. The Panthers went into halftime with a 30-13 lead. Lauryn Stanton of the Lady Demons finished the half with six points and Isabelle Niederst for the Panthers finished the half with 14. The Panthers put on another defensive masterpiece in the third quarter as the Lady Demons only managed to score 3 points.
After the third, the Panthers led 44-16. The fourth quarter only saw 5 total points as the final score was 47-18 for the Panthers.
Strong defensive play was key throughout the whole game and Elyria Catholic was dominant from the tip to the final buzzer.
Isabelle Niederst led the Panthers with 16 points and Lauryn Stanton led the Demons with 8.
