NXT had competition tonight as AEW Dynamite bumped up a night from their normal Wednesday night time slot to go head-to-head with their arch rival. AEW didn’t blink and put on one Hell of a show.
If you did stick with NXT and miss AEW for any reason, here just some of the highlights you missed.
The shows starts off with Christian Cage taking full credit for having the fist 30 minutes be commercial free. Later in the night, Christian Cage says that the reason Adam Copeland wants to team up with him is because Adam needs him, while he doesn’t need Adam
Christian declares that Luchasaurus will end Adam, but not to worry because Beth Phoenix and his kids will be taken care of.
Reaction – Classic heel move, taking credit for something he had nothing to do with. At the same time, hitting on someone’s wife later in the show, clutch heel move yet again! A double dip for Christian tonight.
Bryan Danielson defeats Swerve Strickland.
Reaction – This was an absolute gem and put Strickland over big time, despite the loss, he went toe to toe with one of the best in the world. Excellent way to start the night!
Samoa Joe cut a promo letting everyone know he is a badass.
Reaction – Un huh, yeah ok, we got it. Enough of this already.
Powerhouse Hobbes defeats Chris Jericho.
Reaction – Smart, by continuing to have members of the Don Callis family defeat Jericho, Omega and Page is a what they will continue to do until the uprise against them begins, making the eventual payoff all that much sweeter and more dramatic when it happens. Plus, Hobbes needed the rub.
Adam Cole visits Roderick Storm yet again, or should we say, he is still trapped there from last week.
Reaction – This is getting weirder and weirder by the week, and not in a good way. Almost one of those scary movies you checked out from blockbuster in the mid 90’s, just hoping to maybe see some boob. I keep waiting for this to go “Clockwork Orange”.
Speaking of Orange, he takes Jon Moxley’s spot in the AEW International Championship match and unseats Rey Fenix for the Gold.
Reaction – BRILLIANT MOVE! Do I really have to explain this one? Cassidy was the right choice for this all along. I do look forward to the rematch with him and Moxley however.
Wardlow squashes Matt Sydal
Reaction – Great! AEW needs to keep Wardlow as big and bad as possible as he is THE ONLY choice to one day unseat MJF for the World Championship.
Jay White defeats Hangman Page and then MJF comes out and asks Jay to do the right thing and give him back the AEW World Title. Jay says he will not and tells MJF if can find 3 people that tolerate him to face The Bullet Club Gold. MJF gets approached by The Acclaimed with Daddy Ass but is lukewarm about it.
Reaction – This was awful, they are making MJF look super weak here. Honestly, he is supposed to be a scum bag, and this badass world champion, and you have reduced him to asking for his belt back, and him getting help from a second rate tag team and guy nearing 60 years old. This entire angle is making MJF look terrible.
Hikaru Shida beats Saraya to become a 3 Time AEW Women’s Champion
Reaction – Well it’s about damn time! The belt should have never left her waist in the first place. It had no business on Saraya. Let the third and hopefully longest reign of Shida begin. I would love to see her re-kindle her rivalry with Britt Baker asap!
HEY, BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER, HOW ABOUT THE MASKED GOOF ON THE ANNOUNCE TEAM SLOWS DOWN AND ACTUALLY SOUNDS INTELLIGENT WHEN HE PREVIEWS THE NEXT EPISODE OF RAMPGE AND COLLISION. IT’S NOT CUTE, IT’S NOT FUNNY, IT’S JUST STUPID!
Okay, moving on to the main event
Adam Copeland beats Luchasaurus
Reaction – Always great to see a guy I grew up rooting for in the 90’s and early 00’s, continue to do his thing. But you know what, it was never in doubt that he would win, they should have had him lose and continue to build a story ark, instead, it is the same old “the new guy everyone loves defeats everyone in his way”. You want people to talk, have him lose his debut.
All in all, a great night for AEW and Wrestling fans in general.
