by The first game of the Legends of basketball Showcase started off with the Davison Wildcats of the Atlantic-10 challenging the Ohio Bobcats of the Mid-American Conference. Davidson claimed their stake as the first winners of today’s Legends Showcase in a close game over the Ohio Bobcats 72-69. This game went down to the last seconds as critical free throws determined the winner of this contest.
Ohio earned the first lead against Davidson; this lead was quickly relinquished as Davidson went on a run. Ohio’s seven turnovers got the Wildcats fastbreak offense off to the races. This was the theme of most of the first half.
Grant Huffman was the leader of his squad in points, the Bobcats couldn’t keep him away from the basket. Davidson’s offense started off streaky got on track hitting open threes and hustling to get second chances.
Ohio got back into the game fast thanks to the efforts of Miles Brown and Jaylin Hunter. Their effort on defense forced Davidson to turn the ball over at the end of the first half. These defensive stops transitioned into offensive chances. The games momentum turned around for Ohio in a big way when Miles Brown hit back to back threes thanks to his effort on defense to force a steal and give himself another open shot to end the half.
The second half was very similar to the first, Davidson controlled the first half with consistent shooting as each player created open shots with good ball movement and offensive flow. A 12-2 run for Davidson was the high point for them before Ohio got their legs underneath them when they got to just one point down to Davidson.
Shereef Mitchell hit a big and one to get give the Bobcats the lead with under a minute left. This lead was short lived as Davidson hit a game tying shot that was followed up by a steal and two made free throws. Ohio had multiple chances to tie the game or take the lead in the final seconds including a half court shot that went in and out of the basket as time expired.
