After their Sunday night loss in San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys fell to 3-4 and appear to be in desperation mode. Jerry Jones is rumored to have been in crisis control and already thinking about mortgaging the future if need be, to save this season.
They are currently 3 back of the resurgent Commanders, and 2 back of the Philadelphia Eagles. The passing attack has been stout with CeeDee Lamb having two more touchdown catches this weekend. However, the main concern is the lack of any form of running game as their top rusher is Rico Dowdle with just 246 yards in 7 games, for an average of only 35 yards a game, the worst in the NFL for any starting tailback.
With this being the case, Jones has been adamant about exhausting all options, including an extremely unlikely trade with the Cleveland Browns for Nick Chubb. The Browns have been rumored to be in “fire sale” mode. However, Chubb is by far Cleveland’s most popular athlete across all 3 major franchises, Guardians, Cavaliers and Browns. With the fan base already upset over the handling of Deshaun Watson, a trade or even trade talks involving Chubb could be a death blow.
The Cowboys have plenty of picks to send over for Chubb, but if the Browns are serious about a future and not a total rebuild, they need to keep Chubb at all costs and I find this trade scenario to be highly unlikely. Jones would have to offer multiple high round picks for Chubb, and for a player coming off of major surgery, few see Chubb being worth that.
