Copley Indians Beat Highland Hornets In Girls Basketball 58-45

Granger, OH – No Audrey Parker, no problem.

In what was the second American Conference game for both schools, Copley was able to take down Highland 58-45.

The Indians were never trailing during the game and were winning by 14 at their peak. The first quarter was very competitive, as Copley only held a 14-12 lead in the first. However, a 12-4 run to close out the first half gave Copley a commanding 35-25 lead into the break. The only Highland field goal was a Bridget Cope three during that run.

Highland tried to chip at the lead, and for a minute, they were successful at it. They got the lead down to six at the end of the third quarter and five by the halfway point of the fourth. But they would not score again for the rest of the game and Copley finished on an 8-0 run.

The free throw and three point line was not kind to the Hornets. There weren’t too many good opportunities for them whereas Copley was able to capitalize on wide open shots for most of the game. Evelyn McKnight put up 17 points for the Indians and Zoey Van Voorhis had 16. The Hornets were without senior Grace Shondel as well.

The Hornets fall to 2-1 on the season, 1-1 in conference play and suffer their first regular season loss in two years. Copley also goes to 2-1 but is 2-0 in the American Conference. Both teams’ next game is Wednesday when Highland plays Tallmadge at home and Copley travels to Aurora.

  1. Watched the Highland vs Copley girls basketball game , a little disappointed to see the Highland coach act the way he did and getting tossed . Yelling at a Copley parent … really, not saying Copley parent was in the right! Just sad to witness especially for the student athletes. These coaches need to control their tempers. Especially when coaches can be role models to those young women. High school coaches are getting out of control look for example Berea coach Mac resigned for who knows what but I heard yelling at the girls in a derogatory way ! Sad to better coaches . Remember this is there time don’t ruin it!
