Columbus Blue Jackets Defeat New York Rangers in Overtime

The Columbus Blue Jackets faced off against the New York Rangers on Monday night and took home the win in overtime. Columbus dominated the first two periods before the Rangers were able to make a comeback in the final frame to force extra time. The Blue Jackets will return to Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. ET to play the Nashville Predators and can be viewed on FanDuel Sports Network Ohio, ESPN+, and NHL Center Ice. Columbus remains in fourth place in the wildcard standings and fifth in the Metropolitan Division.

Columbus opened the first period with a tip-in shot from Adam Fantilli at 5:50 with help from Kiril Marchenko and Denton Mateychuk. The Rangers were awarded a two-minute penalty at 14:34 that the Jackets took advantage of. Kiril Marchenko scored the power-play goal at 15:32, assisted by Ivan Provorov and Charlie Coyle.

The Jackets opened the middle frame with a two-minute tripping penalty for Boone Jenner. Still, Sean Monahan quickly followed with an unassisted snap-shot goal at 3:27. Mathieu Olivier closed out the period with his own snap-shot goal at 11:54, with an assist from Charlie Coyle and Damon Severson to put Columbus up 4-0.

The Rangers dominated in the final frame, scoring four goals in the last twenty minutes to force the game into overtime. New York was quick to score when it returned to the ice, getting goals at 0:30 and 0:54. The middle of the period was back and forth, but the Rangers still scored two more goals at 12:52 and 15:14. Kiril Marchenko scored the game-winning goal for Columbus at just 1:04 into extra time with help from Damon Severson and Adam Fantilli. Elvis Marzlikins was in the net for the Blue Jackets on Monday night and saved 29 of the total 33 shots on goal.
