Ryan Day and the Buckeyes trusted C.J. Stroud last week and he showed up big in the second half. The young quarterback settled in, delivered strikes and let his stars do the rest. That they did as Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and even rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson burst off big runs after the catch and put several massive touchdowns on the board.
Stroud not only had plenty of time in the pocket last week, but there were huge holes for Miyan Williams to run through. Williams only carried the ball 9 times yet absolutely exploded on those limited touches. He finished with 125 yards and 1 touchdown. I expect him to receive more carries today and the freshman Henderson to serve as the backup.
Master Teague looked fine last week but may have witnessed himself drop to number three on the depth chart. He will likely still get a few touches in the early running back by committee scheme.
Harry Miller is once again out at center and Luke Wypler gets the second consecutive start. Aside from two poor snaps, he played well alongside the rest of the o-line. I truly believe that the offensive player of the game last week should be a full unit… the offensive line. Petit-Frere, Thayer Munford, Wypler, Paris Johnson Jr. and Jones were lights out. Perhaps the best unit in the country.
On defense the line is even better than last year but the linebackers are still looking for their second guy next to Teradja Mitchell. Expect a large rotation of linebackers once again even though Cody Simon is my favorite due to his speed.
The secondary was extremely thin and two freshman corners were put to the test. Ryan Watts and Denzel Burke held up against the Golden Gophers. Burke actually showed some great potential and should expect lots of reps today despite the return of both Sevyn Banks and Cameron Brown.
Josh Proctor is a game time decision today at safety which means even if he does play, Bryson Shaw will be very busy and a crucial piece on the back end.
