Cloverleaf prevails over Field, 35-21

Brimfield, Ohio – In a back-and-forth contest, Cloverleaf stepped up when it needed to, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to prevail Friday night over Field, 35-21.

Field struck first when Dallas McAmis found wide receiver Caden Contant for a ten-yard touchdown reception. The Falcons would lead 7-0 after the first.

Despite being pinned inside their own one-yard line, thanks to a brilliant punt by Emilio Rivera, the Field Falcons drove over 90 yards, looking to add to their lead.

But the Cloverleaf defense held firm, blocking a field goal. And senior quarterback Logan Tierney found Blake Wilson for a 40-yard touchdown reception to tie the ball game.

Michael Williams would run for a 26-yard touchdown, and the Colts went to halftime up 14-7.

A Phillip Hamilton interception return set the Cloverleaf offense up with a short field early in the third quarter.

The Colts capitalized when Michael Williams scored from 16 yards out to increase the lead to 21-7.

Zack Davis scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns early in the third quarter. This gave the Falcons some much needed momentum, cutting their deficit to 21-14.

After a defensive stop, Zack Davis took another pitch, and carried this one 59 yards to the house to tie it up. He had 16 carries for 179 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

The fourth quarter belonged to Cloverleaf.

First, a key fumble recovery set the Colts up deep in Field territory. The Falcons looked to have gotten a key stop on downs, but a facemask penalty kept the drive. Cloverleaf would eventually capitalize when Logan Tierney punched it in from a yard out to make the score 28-21.

After a defensive stand, Michael Williams took off for a 46-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 35-21 with 1:53 left.

Field would drive down to the five-yard line, but the Cloverleaf defense made their second red zone stop of the night to officially seal the game.

Senior running back Emilio Rivera had 15 carries for 116 yards, and a couple of very impressive punts to pin Field deep in their own territory. Blake Wilson had two catches for 52 yards and the game-tying touchdown.

In a losing effort, Field Falcons senior quarterback Dallas McAmis had 20 carries for 115 yards. He also went 9 of 19 passing for 119 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Senior wide receiver Caden Contant had three catches for 52 yards and a score.

Cloverleaf improves to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the Metro Conference. They will host Ravenna next Friday night to wrap up the regular season.

Field drops to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the Metro Conference. They will host Akron Springfield next Friday night to wrap up the regular season.
