Cleveland State Men’s Basketball in Search of New Head Coach

Per Matt Kearny

CLEVELAND, OH — Cleveland State University announced that men’s basketball coach Daniyal Robinson has stepped down from his position to accept the same role at the University of North Texas. A national search for Cleveland State’s next head coach will begin immediately.

“I want to thank Coach Robinson for his leadership, dedication’ and advancement of our men’s basketball program over the past three seasons,” Director of Athletics Kelsie Gory Harkey said. “We are grateful for his service and wish him nothing but the best. Coach Robinson continued our tradition of excellence both on and off the court while preparing our student-athletes for the future. Our goal in hiring our next head coach is to build on the success of our program on the court while providing a transformational student-athlete experience to all of our men’s basketball players. I thank President Bloomberg and the Cleveland State Board of Trustees for their full support as we identify a top tier coach to lead us forward.”

Coach Robinson led Cleveland State to three 20-win seasons during his three seasons with the Vikings, while leading CSU to postseason play in all of those seasons. He mentored six All-Horizon league student-athletes as head coach, and one player – Tristan Enaruna – signed with the Boston Celtics after his time at CSU.
