Cleveland Heights Stadium – It was a good day for high school football. The Tigers started the game off with a Darreon Fair 20 yard gain on third down, which set up a Jalen White 3 yard touchdown run to put Cleveland Heights up 6 to 0 with 10:53 remaining on the clock in the first quarter. Once the Bulldogs received the ball, they had a hard time gaining yards against a strong Tigers defense up front.
As the first quarter wore down, Owen Bisker picked up a big gain to put his team in scoring position. With 3:24 left in the first quarter, senior Jalen White scored his second rushing touchdown on the night on a 16 yard play. The Tigers held a 13 to 0 lead over the Bulldogs through the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers continued to control the game behind the contributions of junior Darreon Fair. The Bulldogs got the ball in good field position but did not capitalize with nine minutes left in the second quarter. Cleveland Heights Darreon Fair ripped off a nice run of fifteen yards before the Bulldogs held their ground. After the stop, Cleveland Heights punted and the Bulldogs muffed the punt, leading to a Tigers recovery. Within a couple of plays, Cleveland Heights senior Vince Holland scored a touchdown with 6:51 left in the second quarter, extending the Tigers’ lead to 19-0.
The Bulldogs got the ball back and tried to put together a last minute drive before halftime. Cleveland Heights sophomore Ethan Golden made a huge tackle to stop Garfield Heights from getting a first down. A quick mistake by the Tigers gave the Bulldogs the opportunity to quickly drive down the field. Garfield Heights senior Reginald Byarse broke the scoring drought for the Bulldogs, making it 19-6 Tigers.
As soon as the Bulldogs kicked the ball off, senior Jumel Lewis returned it for a 80 yard touchdown to extend the Tiger lead (25-6). Cleveland Heights was not done yet, scoring once again before the halftime break. Senior Jamarion Lanum tallied the score and the half concluded 32-6.
The second half began with some back and forth action between the two teams. The Bulldogs scored the first points of the half with a safety (32-8 Tigers). The Bulldogs scored one more TD before Cleveland Heights senior Darreon Fair rushed for a touchdown (38-15 Tigers).
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers continued to tack on to the lead. In the end, the experience of Cleveland Heights was too much for Garfield Heights and the Tigers come out on top 53-15.
