Cleveland Heights Defeat Elyria 29 to 22 In Shocking Finish

With 1:02 left in the game and the score tied at 22  Elyria had a chance to win but fumbled the ball giving Cleveland Heights senior defensive back Jumel Lewis a chance to recover it and score the winning touchdown with no time remaining in shocking fashion.   Cleveland Heights will now advance to take on highly ranked Medina next Friday.

The game started out with a defense battle through the first quarter. With five minute left in the first quarter, Elyria senior quarterback Desmond Whitfield threw a touchdown pass to junior wideout Jaden Gilbert making the score 6 to 0 in the only score of the first quarter.

Later on in the second quarter, the Cleveland Heights defense forced Elyria to punt the ball. As Cleveland Heights was driving the ball down the field, Elyria defense was able to force a fumble and recover by junior linebacker Noah Fox.

Couple of plays later Elyria junior wideout Jaden Gilbert scored with a simple twenty five yard play and converted the two point attempt.

Down 14-0, Cleveland Heights was able to come back and score with a quick touchdown run by senior running back Jalen White. Making it a one score game. With one minute to go before halftime.

Elyria defensive back Jaden Gilbert got an interception putting his team in excellent field position. Then Elyria junior running back Lance Glover scored, pushing the score conversion 22 to 7.

The third quarter was a slow battle until Cleveland Height junior quarterback scored with a quarterback keeper cutting the lead to 22 to 14 for Elyria.

Going to the fourth quarter with Cleveland Heights is gaining some momentum, Elyria fumbled the ball and was recovered by Cleveland Heights senior defensive back Raphael Adams. A few plays later the Cleveland Heights junior quarterback ran a quarterback keeper for a touchdown. Plus Cleveland Heights was able to convert the two point attempt.
