Cleveland Heights, Ohio – The Cleveland Heights Tigers kicked off the 2022 campaign with a 43-13 victory over visiting Brunswick.
Sophomore quarterback Ethan Roksandich started off the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run off a draw. The ensuing point after was no good, and Brunswick led 6-0 early in the first.
Cleveland Heights marched down the field to take the lead, capping off their drive with a two-yard touchdown run from senior Darreon Fair. The point after was good, and the Tigers took the lead, 7-6.
But Fair was not done. Early in the second quarter, he threw a 49-yard touchdown toss to sophomore Marquise Davis, padding the Tiger lead to 14-6.
A fumble recovery on defense gave the Tigers great field position. Fair would complete a pass on fourth down to sophomore John Gordon to keep the drive alive. He would later punch it in from two yards out, increasing the lead to 20-6.
Speaking of John Gordon, he also had a few impressive plays of his own. On the ensuing drive after a Brunswick punt, Gordon took a handoff and scampered 80 yards to pay dirt. One successful two-point try later, and Heights led 28-6 with 3:31 left. Gordon had three catches for 58 yards.
The Cleveland Heights defense came up with another huge play, when senior defensive back Perez Lemon picked off an attempted double pass. Although the Tigers started the drive in the shadow of their end zone, it did not take them long to flip the field.
Quarterback Darreon Fair sprinted down the sideline for a 78-yard gain to flip the field and put the Tigers in the red zone. Marquis Davis would score from ten yards out. The ensuing two-point try was successful, giving Cleveland Heights a 36-6 lead going into the half.
The Tiger offense kept it going in the third quarter. Darreon Fair found John Gordon for an impressive reception. Owen Bisker capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown, increasing the lead to 43-6.
Ethan Roksandich had a 38-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Blue Devils for the final margin.
