Cleveland Browns: Genard Avery Rewarded By Hometown

To many people, Genard Avery is much more than just a 2018 fifth-round draft pick. Originally from Grenada, Miss., Avery played college football at Memphis and improved every year during his four years donning blue and white.

John Dorsey liked what he saw from Avery’s game, which propelled him to draft the powerful linebacker at pick No. 150 last year. During his rookie season in Cleveland, Avery racked up 39 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four pass deflections and forced one fumble.

The 24-year-old held a youth football camp at Grenada High School back on June 22 to give back to his community. At the end of his camp, city officials proclaimed June 22 as ‘Genard Avery Day’ in honor of his dedication to giving back to the youth of Grenada, Miss while recognizing his achievements and commitment to excellence.

Heading into his second year with the Browns, Avery is in a spot where he can potentially replace Jamie Collins at strong-side linebacker. Standing at 6-foot, 250 pounds, Avery has a strong chance to show out even more on a very young and talented defense.
