Chairman and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Ted Leonsis announced Monday morning that Sashi Brown, who last served as Cleveland’s Executive Vice President of football operations in 2016, has been hired to serve as chief planning and operations officer with the Washington Wizards.
In his new role with the Wizards, Brown will manage the efforts relating to technology, finance, communications, security, research and player management.
Brown, 43, is a Harvard Law and Hampton University graduate who has extensive experience in business operations and the NFL. In 2005, he was hired as the lead counsel for the Jacksonville Jaguars which lasted till 2012.
From there, he joined the Browns organization in 2013 as the team’s salary cap specialist. He was then promoted in 2016 to serve as the executive vice president and general counsel, where he was responsible for overseeing the roster and salary cap while also directing the team’s football administration functions, including negotiation of players contracts.
The first significant move Brown made with Cleveland in 2016 was hiring Hue Jackson as head coach, who was previously the offensive coordinator for the Bengals. He then traded down in the first round of the 2016 draft twice, ultimately selecting Corey Coleman with their first pick at pick No. 15.
The Browns fired Sashi Brown on Dec. 7, 2017 and he now joins the Washington Wizards team coming off a 32-50 season.
