by It appears Duke Johnson got his wish. The Browns have traded Duke Johnson to the Houston Texans for a fourth-round 2020 draft pick that can become a third-rounder, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Johnson spent the first four years of his NFL career in Cleveland. He saw a total of 299 carries go for 1,286 yards and five touchdowns while catching 235 passes for 2,170 yards and eight touchdowns.
As players first reported to Berea for training camp, head coach Freddie Kitchens reiterated to the media that the team plans to help Johnson be apart of the team’s plans moving forward and throughout the season.
“We’ve said from the very beginning that Duke is a Cleveland Brown,” Kitchens explained during the opening press conference July 24. “He signed a contract last year. He’s going to be here, he’s going to have a role in our offense and he’s going to have a significant role in our offense. He’s a productive player. We’re not giving away good players, ok?”
Johnson hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent July 11 in hopes of granting his wish of being traded. At minicamp, the 25-year-old had this to say:
“I only want to be somewhere I’m wanted,” he told the media. “At the end of the day, that’s all this is about, being somewhere you’re wanted. I think it’s best that we find a middle ground and we do what’s best for the team.”
The Browns will be in action tonight as they host the Washington Redskins at FirstEnergy Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m.
