The Browns defense dominated from start to finish in an impressive 27-3 home victory against the Tennessee Titans today. Through 12 quarters to start the season, the Browns defense has only allowed 1 touchdown, and 12 total points, simply incredible. Today, they shut down one of the NFL’s premier rushers as they held Derrick Henry to just 20 yards on 11 carries. They also sacked Ryan Tannehill 5 times with 3.5 from Myles Garrett.
Deshaun Watson badly needed a bounce back game, and got one today as he threw for 289 yards on an efficient 27 of 33 with two touchdown passes. He also for 16 yards on 4 carries. His main target was Amari Cooper who had another nice game with 7 catches for 116 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter to put the game away for good.
Jerome Ford isn’t exactly Nick Chubb, but he was in the right spot at the right time twice today, with two touchdowns. Despite being held to just 18 yards on 10 carries, he had a touchdown run and touchdown catch in the victory. Kareem Hunt didn’t look too rusty and was cheered every time he touched the ball today. Hunt finished with 13 yards on 5 carries, but did have 2 catches for 22 yards.
The Browns relied heavy on short routes to Elijah Moore in the first half, as he finished the game with 9 catches for 49 yards. However, his costly fumble led to the only points the Titans could score all day.
A dominating defensive effort by the Browns allowed them to bring a 13-3 lead into the break. Myles Garret had 2 plus sacks as Ryan Tannehill struggled to find time to pass, thanks in part to the massive pressure he faced. They also held Derrick Henry to -7 yards on just 4 carries in the opening half.
The Browns got on the board first, after settling for a 48-yard field goal from sure footed kicker Dustin Hopkins. This was the end result of a 12-play drive that went 48 yards, but soaked up 7 minutes to start the game. The Titans got their three points following a recovered Moore fumble set them up with great field position.
The lone touchdown of the first half was the product of a 9 play, 75-yard drive led by Watson, and capped off with a 19 yard touchdown pass to Jerome Ford. Watson made a lot of short but accurate throws in the first half, as he went 16 of 20 for 146 yards during that stretch with the lone Titan points coming off the Moore turnover.
The second half was all Browns as the Titans never threatened, and touchdowns from Jerome Ford on the ground and Amari Cooper through the air, put the game away for good.
