2. Contain George Kittle
George Kittle currently leads the 49ers in receiving as he has caught 11 passes for 165 yards through three games. Monday night, rookie linebacker Mack Wilson will have to frequently guard Kittle as he continues to replace Christian Kirksey’s veteran presence on the defensive side of the ball.
Head coach Freddie Kitchens had this to say about Wilson on what he’s done right throughout the course of his rookie campaign:
“He has been very successful up to this point this year. Anytime you have a guy that can find open windows in zone and kind of has a knack for it, they present a lot of problems.”
Covering a matchup nightmare such as Kittle one-on-one will not be an easy task for a rookie linebacker in an injury-laden secondary. Limiting Kittle and his big-play ability throughout the game will be an early indicator of how the game might go for the 49ers on the offensive side of the ball.
