Clearview Clippers spring to 28-6 victory over the Firelands Falcons

What a great night to have some High School Football in Ohio! Perfect weather and the Friday night lights were shining as bright as ever. In tonight’s matchup we saw the Clearview Clippers meet up against the Firelands Falcons. The Clippers came into this match at 4-0 looking to extend their streak. Their defense has been immaculate all season and they were looking to showcase why they have been undefeated as they progress through the season. The Firelands Falcons came into this game at 2-3 and they were looking to leave with .500 record to give some confidence to the locker room going into the next part of their schedule. I will break down the key moments and takeaways from this game in this article

1st Quarter

As the quarter started and progressed the Clippers and the Falcons got off to slow start in the 1st quarter with both defenses asserting their dominance. It was really a test of who could stop the other and that’s what football is all about, good ole barn burning action. Until Clearview took off for 70 yard TD with 4:30 left in the 1st quarter by JG Hill. Clearview connected with the 2pt conversion. The end of quarter score was 8-0 with Clearview leading the way. In what looked to be a defensive game for both. One slip up by Firelands led to a 70 yard TD by JG Hill

2nd Quarter

Firelands starts the quarter with some fire and scored from the 2yd line after a 55 yard heave and a dominant run to set them up perfectly for the Touchdown. Clearview gets the ball right back fora 4 5yd gain on the kickoff. The Clippers came right back down the field on their drive with a 30 yard passing Touchdown. The quarter started to slow down after this and around the 1:40 mark Firelands faced an injury to #11, who was able to blessedly walk off the field himself. The half ends at 14-6 in favor of Clearview. In an entertaining half to say the least.

3rd Quarter

The Clippers start the half gunning straight out the gate with multiple big gains and highlight 26 yard pass to get them to the 2 yard line where Tristan Lentile takes it home for another score. And they convert on another 2 point conversion. They were 2/3 on those at the moment. This made the score 22-6. The strategy and the thinking process of it was brilliant and it was to completely force their will on the opponent. Great idea by the coach.

4th Quarter

The Quarter was another example of a chess match as neither team wanted to give an inch to the other. Clearview broke the seal in this quarter by recovering a botched punt around the 6 minute mark on their own 6 yard line but could not convert on a score and turn the ball over. Score still 22-6. Firelands get the ball back on the turnover on downs but could not convert as well. CV scores again on a 24 yard run by JG Hill making the score 28-6 with 6:17 left to go as they go 2/4 on 2pt conversion attempts. The rest of this quarter was back and forth until the end as the Clearview Clippers come away with the win and roll into next game at 5-0. This has been a dominant season for them so far and fans look forward to seeing what kind of success they can continue to bring in for the rest of the year. In terms of the Firelands Falcons, they are struggling so far but who’s to say they can’t turn it around at any point. More developments will come along as the season progresses but overall this was a great game and great atmosphere!
