Clearview Clippers avenge last year’s loss vs Lakewood in dominating fashion

Written by Tyler Hatcher

Lorain, Ohio- Cy Christianson and company score early and often in Clippers 40-12 win
vs the Lakewood Rangers Friday night. Last year 40 points gave Clearview a heartbreaking loss
against Lakewood, however, that would not be the case this year.

After forcing Lakewood to punt on their first possession, a combination rushes by junior
Tristin Lentile and passes by fellow junior, Cy Christianson to seniors Isaiah Garcia and J.G. Hill
marched Clearview down the field. When about to score, Lentile fumbled the ball, however,
senior lineman Manny Moore is there to recover the fumble for a big man touchdown, a two
point conversion added would make it 8-0 in favor of Clearview.

The teams would trade punts before Lakewood would answer back early in the 2nd
quarter with a 21 yard touchdown pass from senior Avery Holt to fellow senior Jaylenn Chappell
to make it 8-6, with a missed PAT by Holt who could not get a good hold from his holder.
Clearview would waste no time answering back. Their next play from scrimmage, senior
Josiah Longo would run 80 yards to make it a 14-6 game in their favor.

Clearview would threaten their next drive too after a brilliant punt return from junior Troy
Jones, giving the Clippers the ball at the Lakewood 25 yard line. Ientile, like he did all game, ran
hard and had gritty runs, however, on 4th and goal would be stopped just short of extending the
Clipper lead.

Backed up in his own end, the dual threat QB Avery Holt would have runs of six, eight,
and 30 yards before a false start penalty on fourth and four would cause the Rangers to punt
again.

Clearview would waste no time again, first play from scrimmage a shuttle pass from
Christianson to Hill would result in another Clearview touchdown 74 yards later. Christianson
would throw the two point conversion to sophomore Tyler Chapman to make it 22-6, which is
what the score would be at halftime.

After moving the ball via facemask on their first possession of the 2nd half, back to back
sacks of Christianson would get the Rangers the ball at their own 38 yard line. A shuttle pass
from Holt to Chappell would net the Rangers 19 yards and a personal foul on Clearview’s Troy
Jones would net them 15 more yards.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, on the next play on what
appeared to be a miscommunication on the snap lead to a fumble recovery for Clearview.
For the third time in this game, Clearview would only need one play to score. The
Clippers would catch the Rangers out of position on a wide open pass from Christianson to
Garcia to make it 28-6.

Lakewood’s next possession would be back and forth, good plays, bad penalties, but it
would lead to a 21 touchdown pass from Holt to sophomore Braeydon Mobley, listed as a
lineman, lined up as a tight end most of the game.

Big runs by junior transfer Kameron Williams would set up Christianson to throw yet
another touchdown pass, again to Garcia, making it 34-12.

After an interception from Jones, Williams would get his hard work to pay off as he would
run for a 21 yard touchdown to make it 40-12, which would be the final score.
