Uhrichsville, Ohio-The Strasburg Tigers took on the Claymont Mustangs at Claymont High School on Friday, January 7th.
Both teams were eager to get their first win of the new year. After a high-intensity game, the Claymont Mustangs came out on top winning 58-55.
In the first quarter, the Mustangs had a hot start after getting the tip-off and scoring four, three-point shots in a row. The Tigers were down 12-2 when they fought back to lessen the score gap. The Tigers scored three, three-point shots in a row but by the end of the first quarter, the Tigers still trailed behind the Mustangs, 16-12.
In the second quarter, both teams were motivated and enthusiastic which resulted in an exciting game to watch for the fans. The Tigers were trying to close the score gap. By halftime, the Mustangs still held onto their lead 32-27 over the Tigers.
After coming back from halftime the battle between the Mustangs and Tigers continued. The score fluctuated back and forth which was a common theme throughout the game. The Tigers inched closer and closer to the Mustangs, even taking the lead but by the end of the third quarter, the score was 40-38, Mustangs.
In the fourth quarter, Claymont hit big free throws down the stretch that advanced their lead. The Tigers pushed through, but it wasn’t enough to seal the victory. The Mustangs won 58-55 at their home court.
It was a close game that resulted in a Mustang Victory. Connor Lynch was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 16 total points and Brody Moreland with 15 points. The leading scorers for Strasburg were Landon Potopsky with 25 and Matthew Stevens with eight points.
