Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers Movie Fails to Deliver

It lacked many of the original characters

Perhaps the biggest flaw in the movie was the lack of original characters from it.  I’m not talking about a spot character here and there, but I’m talking about the big ones we saw episode in and episode out when it was a cartoon.

There weren’t any original villains such as Fat Cat and Professor Norton Nimnul.  They were also missing their normal allies such as Officer Kirby, Officer Muldoon and Sergeant Spinelli.  Instead, they relied on weird choices such as Peter Pan, the Coco Cola Bear and some random character from Gumby.  It was a strange reach, and it didn’t work.

As bad as that was, what was even worse was the lack of presence of Monterey Jack, Zipper and Gadget.  In fact, the three of them combined to be in less than 7 minutes of a 100 plus minute movie.  That was a HUGE letdown. Not to mention the fact that they had Gadget marry Zipper.  That seemed like an extremely odd choice.

Chip and Dale sounded nothing like Chip and Dale

For whatever reason, they chose to give Chip and Dale adult human voices.  It was another odd choice considering when the little bit Monterey Jack and Gadget were in the movie, they still had their cartoon voices.  It just didn’t work and wasn’t funny. I get the fact the producers wanted them to sound grown up, but again, I don’t think a single person would have complained.

Also, they gave Zipper a human voice, which was perhaps the biggest stretch of all considering he never once spoke on the actual cartoon. Instead of keeping atleast one tradition alive they decided to ruin that one was well as he was voiced by Dennis Haysbert which made even less sense.  I don’t think there is a fan alive who could relate Zipper to Pedro Cerrano, but they went that way.

All of this combined with there being no Ranger Mobile, treehouse home or really any throwback to the original show, made this hard to watch at times.  The entire point of a movie like this is for the hardcore fans to have geek out moments, and they provided zero of them.  A person who never saw a single episode of the show, could sit down and watch this and not be the littlest bit lost.  I’m not sure that is a good thing?

All in all, it was entertaining for what its worth, and I give it 2 out of 5 nuts.
