Chardon Routes New Philly 31-0 To Advance

1st quarter

Chardon started the game on their own 38 yard line and skillfully drove down the field to bank in the games first touchdown; the bulk of their yardage came from a half back screen pass from quarterback Drew Fetchik that put them into a great position to score. They completed the drive with a 1 yard run into the end zone by fullback Sean Carr. Chardon 7 New Philadelphia 0.

New Philadelphia started their first drive on their own 30 yard line; after a few quick passes by senior quarterback Caden O’Neill that got the Quakers to the Hilltoppers 15 yard line, O’Neill was intercepted at the 1 yard line by Chardon.

The Hilltoppers started their second drive with 6:43 in the 1st quarter, but was unable to capitalize on the Quakers turnover and had to punt the ball away. New Philadelphia used a good combination of runs and short passes to move up the field once again but their drive stalled as the quarter ended. End of the 1st quarter Chardon 7 New Philadelphia 0.

2nd quarter

After receiving the punt and starting at their own 20 yard line, Chardon decided to use their running game of quarterback keepers by Fetchik and outside sweeps by running back James PettyJohn. This running attack allowed them to march down the field 71 yards before capitalizing on a 9 yard touchdown run by Fetchik. Chardon 14 New Philadelphia 0.

With 8:30 left before the half, the Quakers started their possession on their own 19 yard line; but Chardon’s defense not only pushed them back in yardage, they forced them into a 3 and out. Chardon, being benefactors of some undisciplined penalties by the Quakers, went back into the run game and were able to get down to the New Philadelphia 20 yard line and score a field goal with 2:36 left in the half.

Chardon 17 New Philadelphia 0. After the Quakers went 3 and out, using only about 1 minute of time off the clock, punted the ball back to the Hilltoppers. Chardon with just about a minute and thirty seconds left before the end of the half tried adding more points on the scoreboard but their drive ran out of time as the half ended. 3rd quarter

New Philadelphia started the 2nd half with the ball on their 22 yard line and completed some nice plays, including a 22 yard pass and 25 yard pass from quarterback O’Neill to wideout Zach Lautenschlager, to reach Hilltoppers 26 yard line. Unfortunately they were forced into a field goal that fell about a foot short of the uprights and turned the ball back over to the Hilltoppers.

Chardon 17 New Philadelphia 0. After withstanding that potential scoring drive by the Quakers, Chardon methodically ran the ball straight up the field to the Quakers 7 yard line and on the next play scored on a inside run by fullback Carr with 4:34 left in the 3rd quarter. Chardon 24 New Philadelphia 0.

The Quakers, trying to get that goose egg off of their side of the scoreboard, used a few passing plays to move the ball down the field but their drive stalled and they had to punt the ball back to Chardon at 2:43 left in the 3rd quarter. New Philadelphia trying to keep Chardon from adding to their score, didn’t help their cause by allowing the Hilltoppers to convert a first down on a 4th and 1 with an offsides penalty as the 3rd quarter ended. Chardon 24 New Philadelphia 0.

4th quarter

The Hilltoppers continued their drive into the last quarter and also were gifted with a pass interference call by the Quakers which helped them get to the 5 yard line of New Philadelphia. They were able to put the proverbial nail in the New Philadelphia coffin with their fourth touchdown of the game from a quarterback keeper by Fetchik. Chardon 31 New Philadelphia 0. With 8 minutes left in the game and falling temperatures, the biggest cheers left from this crowd came when the announcement that the game clock would now become a running clock due to the margin of the score. With both teams using their running game and a running clock, possession changed hands only one time as the game ended with a Hilltoppers victory. Chardon 31 New Philadelphia 0.
