Chagrin Falls, Ohio – The Chagrin Falls Tigers defeated their Route 422 rival Kenston Bombers, 17-5, in the OHSAA Division II, Region 6 regional quarterfinal.
In the two teams’ first matchup on April 16th, Chagrin Falls defeated Kenston, 11-10, in overtime.
Ella Catney got things started with a goal two minutes into Friday’s game. Following a win on the faceoff, Emma Thatcher added a goal of her own 16 seconds later, increasing the lead to 2-0. Claire Hoelzel added a goal to make it 3-0.
Kenston got on the board with a goal from senior Carmella Nillson to trim their deficit to 3-1. The Tigers led 4-2 after the first quarter.
Chagrin Falls’ offense caught fire in the second quarter.
Jenna Louden and Avery Kohanski each scored to pad the Tiger lead to 6-2. A Kenston goal from Charlotte Cowan cut the deficit to 6-3. The Tigers scored the last four goals in the stanza. First came an Emma Thatcher goal (her second), increasing the lead to 7-3. Brix Niedhammer scored at 5:11, 4:13, and at 21.2 second left. Thanks to her three goals, Chagrin Falls led 10-3 at the half.
Avery Kohanski increased the lead to 11-3 early in the third quarter with her second goal of the game. After a Mariela Macias goal cut the deficit to 11-4, Jenna Lowden and Emma Thatcher added goals to make the score 13-4 after three.
Kohanski added her third goal 18 seconds into the final quarter, making the score 14-4, and triggering the running clock. Emma Thatcher added her third goal less than 30 seconds later. Cora Dunnam scored for Kenston with 7:46 left. She would score her fourth with 2:11 to play, and Jenna Louden scored to cap the scoring.
Chagrin Falls advanced to the regional semifinals where they will host Chardon on Wednesday, May 28th, at 7pm.
